Common Faults and Diagnosis
- Compressor oil loss and wear - low separation efficiency or blocked return line

Prevention
- Check oil return line temperature regularly - it should feel warm
- Listen for compressor oil level; falling level points to the separator first
- Check float valve/capillary blockage yearly

Diagnostic Approach
Compressor discharge gas travels at high speed carrying oil mist. The oil separator combines centrifugal separation, gravity settling and mesh coalescing: gas spins and accelerates, oil droplets are flung to the wall, then coalesce on stainless mesh, grow and settle to the oil sump, and return to the compressor through the oil return line (float valve or capillary).
